Emission Reduction

Scope 1

• Angul’s Coal Gasification Plant-Direct Reduced Iron (CGP-DRI), largest in the world, produces synthesis gas ( >50% hydrogen), which minimizes CO₂ emissions with carbon capture as compared to traditional blast furnaces.
• JSP plans to set up two more CGP-DRI operations with carbon capture in future plant expansions.
• JSP plans to make the Angul plant ready to implement carbon utilisation technology.
• To reduce the emission, JSP is planning to implement a heat recovery system and energy recovery from by-product gas with a minimum flare of the same.

Scope 2

• JSP is planning a major shift from coal-based power generation to renewable energy

Scope 3

• A pipe conveyor of 200 km in length for iron ore fines from Barbil to Angul is being laid.
• A pipe conveyor is being laid for coal from mines to Angul Plant.
