Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) has left an indelible mark on Odisha's industrial landscape with its diversified operations comprising a steel plant, pellet plant, power plant, and mines.
At the heart of this dynamic industrial ecosystem is India's most modern 6 MTPA integrated steel plant in Angul. This remarkable facility, featuring India's largest 4.25 MTPA blast furnace, has set new global benchmarks in steelmaking, underlining JSP's commitment to excellence. Currently, the plant is in the process of doubling its capacity to a formidable 12 MTPA, with a vision to establish Angul as the world's largest integrated steel plant at a single location by the year 2030.
JSP's journey in Odisha exemplifies its dedication to the steel industry's growth and global leadership.
JSP has a 6 MTPA integrated steel plant comprising India’s largest 4.25 MTPA Blast Furnace at Angul, Odisha. It has a 1.2 MTPA plate mill, 1.4 MTPA bar mill and an 810 MW captive power plant at Angul. Its plate mill is capable of producing 5-meter-wide plates, which is the widest plate ever built in India. The facility develops special-grade and nuclear application plates for critical applications like boilers, petroleum pipes, shipbuilding, automotive, oil exploration, earthmovers, warships, armoured vehicles, and nuclear applications.
Equipped with fully mechanised techniques, JSP’s Tensa iron ore mill currently produces about 3.11 MTPA of iron ore. This partially fulfils the company’s iron ore requirement for producing sponge iron. Today, JSP is working towards its goal of becoming self-reliant in its production.
Located just 17 km from its Barbil pellet plant, Kasia is a high Fe and low alumina mine with a capacity of 7.5 MTPA. Access to this large captive iron ore source, therefore, provides a massive strategic advantage to the company. The company already has plans to use a slurry pipeline from the Barbil region to Angul, which will further reduce the logistics cost.
